2014 Beauty Trends

Recent trends that have been spotted dominating the fashion runways.

I am a big fan of this trend! whether it be a subtle bronze smokey eye perfect for the day time or a dramatic purple look for a night out it is bound to turn heads. People usually ask me what is the secret to creating the perfect  dramatic smokey eye, well it is important to blend, blend and then blend some more! If you are starting out with makeup, pick up a palette that has only about 3-6 colours (so there is no confusion about where to apply the appropriate shade!) Some of my personal favorites include:
  • Too Faced Smokey Eye Shadow Collection ($53.95)
  • Revlon PhotoReady Primer, Shadow + Sparkle ($25.95)
  • Almay Intense i-color Shimmer-i Kit ($14.95)
  • Maybelline Expert Wear Eye Shadow Quads ($12.70)
To intensify the look make sure to apply the darkest shade to the lower lash line, this will close up the eyes and make them appear smaller, pair this with a full volume, false lash effect mascara (such as Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara $32). To make the eyes stand out make sure the make rest of the makeup is neutral by contouring the cheekbones and applying a nude lipstick.

Inspired by Summer, this look is all about shimmer, glow and illuminate! To make this look work for even the driest skin types, it is important to apply a good hydrating mask beforehand (Glamglow ThurstyMud Hydrating Treatment $69, Origins Drink Up 10 minute mask $34). Try to keep the foundation very light and set with powder only where it is really needed. Makeup should look very minimal, achieve a sun-kissed glow by applying bronzer to the temples, cheekbones and jawline. For added glamour apply a coral or orange lipstick.

Both trends are perfect all year round whether you are coming into spring or the cooler months.
